MOUNTAINS

The biggest draw to the area is the stunning scenery and opportunity to 'Peak Bag' across the highest peaks in South Wales. If you're not planning to walk or hike up them you can just admire the stunning landscape from river level!


BOAT TRIPS

Day trips on the famous Brec-Mon canal remind you of a slower pace of life and opportunity to experience nature from the water.  With stunning scenery, fantastic wildlife join an organised cruise or self drive.


CYCLING

Bring your own 2 wheels or hire a set from local cycle hire shop there's so much to explore in and around the area.  Car-free options along the canal towpath are ideal for families, or challenge yourself to go off-road and try some of the mountain-biking trails across the area.

HISTORY

Brecon is full of history, spanning ancient times with evidence of Iron Age and Roman settlements to the strategic military centre of Brecknockshire.  Visit the home of the Welsh Regiment or learn about the Gurkha contribution to the British Army.  


GOLF

Brecon is 'heaven' for Golfers.  With 2 courses local to the town - Brecon Golf Club - providing a challenging but fair test of golf for all levels from beginner to accomplished golfer.  Cradoc Golf Club - proving a fun course with interesting holes and stunning views of the Brecon Beacons.  Both courses are within walking distance of Ty Berllan.


WALKING

When you arrive in Brecon you can leave the car and put on your walking shoes.  With plenty of walking routes to suit all levels, all terrains and abilities you could even arrive by public transport and immerse yourself in environmentally friendly tourism.


HERITAGE RAILWAY

Brecon is not served by a mainline station (the line was closed in 1962), but you can experience train travel from yester-year via the Brecon Mountain Railway.  Take a traditional steam engine journey along the south side of Bannau Brycheiniog climbing from Pant alongside the Pontsticill Reservoir, past Pentwyn Reservoir to Torpantau Railway Station.


EAT & DRINK

A range of independent eateries, bars and restaurants around the town you are spoilt for choice.  Venture a little further and immerse yourself in local artisan producers of cheese, gin, beers and Welsh wine!
